Abstract

The Griffith Geomatics for GeoScience initiative involves a high level of collaboration between the CMRC and the GSI. The objectives of the project are:
1. To facilitate open access to GSI data via web enabled services
2. To achieve innovations in geoscience data management and delivery
3. To build experience within and collaboration between the GSI and CMRC
4. To engage the interest of the Irish geoscience community by providing examples of the benefits of data sharing

Three Postdoctoral researchers are working on the Geomatics for GeoScience project in CMRC, and are focused on developing:
1. An integrated database for geological data
2. An interoperability platform enabling web-enabled delivery of metadata and data
3. Web-enabled 4D visualisation of geological datasets.

The Griffith Geomatics for GeoScience project has been funded under the Griffith Geoscience Research Awards scheme. The funding for the award is part of the National Geoscience Programme 2007 – 2013 coinciding with the timeframe of the NDP (National Development Plan). In total 8 GeoScience related projects are active under the Griffith programme. The award is administered by the Geological Survey of Ireland. Please contact Michael O'Mahony at GSI for more information on the overall Griffith programme.
