Abstract

The overall objective of the GeoDI project is to derive maximum value from the national data acquisition effort to date and to allow future data to be integrated easily. This can be achieved by integrating datasets and advancing the data management methods to derive a holistic and more sophisticated view of change in the status of the marine environment. The GeoDI project aims to address this challenge by examining the critical issues involved in the integration of Irish marine geoscientific (geophysical and geological) datasets and assessing tools and services for enhanced analyses of geoscientific data.

CMRC is responsible for reviewing existing geoscientific datasets and current applications (use of data) within the Marine Institute and partners. Based on international and European best practice for managing large volumes of geoscientific datasets and on state of the art geoscientific data models and ontologies, CMRC will develop data models and ontologies for integrating geoscientific data and resources. CMRC will also fulfil responsibilities associated with the lead partner role, i.e. project management functions.
