Paula joined CMRC in April 2009 as a PhD student. Her research involves developing tools for identifying and mapping areas likely to contain essential/preferred fish habitat in relation to deep sea corals. The main focus of her research is the use of geostatistical analytical techniques and simulations to investigate the relationships between fish population distributions and environmental parameters.

Paula graduated with a M.Sc. degree by research from University College Cork in 2007. This was a collaborative project with the Marine Institute titled; ‘Fishing activity, biological features and suggested management measures for the biologically sensitive area off the Irish coast’. Prior to this she graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Marine Science from the University of Glamorgan, a Diploma in Applied Aquatic Science from Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology and a Diploma in Geographic Information Systems form University College Cork.

In the past Paula has worked as a Fisheries and Data Analyst with the Marine Institute, Galway. She also worked with CMRC on the IMAGIN project, estimating fish abundance using geostatistical techniques. Paula also spent a year working in Broadcasting Policy with the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.
