The group’s research has focussed on mapping various marine habitats including deep-water corals, scallop grounds, sand and gravel resources. The mapping is done through the use of remotely sensed and ground based methods. Coastal work includes monitoring coastal processes (e.g. beach erosion, sediment transport) using a range of instrumentation and advising on coastal management. Data integration and analysis using GIS is also a strength. In recent years the group has been active in training university students in seabed mapping techniques and analysis. We have close links with UCC’s Department of Geology and Department of Geogrpahy, Geological Survey of Ireland and the Marine Institute.
